Mini Vacation, thanks Tag

My hubby & I were away on a mini vacation to Galveston Island, TX to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary early (Wedd Anniv is 11/19). First time visiting there. We stayed at The Hotel Galvez near the seawall. Room was on 6th floor so we had a wonderful view of the water.

The Hotel Galvez

There was a motorcycle event there during the weekend that was ending when we arrived Sun 11/4. Temps on Sun 11/4 & Mon 11/5 were cool. Temps on Tues 11/6 and day we left Wed 11/7 were hot/humid.

Walked the beach & collected sea shells Sun 11/4

Enjoyed the Tree Sculpture Tour Mon 11/4 & Tues 11/5 which is a tour of wood carvings done using the Oak trees from Hurricane Ike in 2008. The wood carvings are outside; some in resident yards, some in parks & some near bldgs. Was like a scavenger hunt driving around & photographing the carvings. Met one homeowner who allowed me into her yard to get better photos of detail of the 2 sculptures (Lighthouse & Dolphin) in her yard. There were a few that no longer exist (one house was no longer there & the 4 sculptures were gone as well).

Tree Sculpture: Great Dane

Toured The ELISSA Ship Mon 11/5. We were the only ones on the Ship. Others went on a boat excursion before touring the Ship.

The ELISSA (add M, what do you get? could not resist) Ship

Walked The Strand Mon 11/5: shops, restaurants, etc. Found & bought some vintage scrabble pieces for 25 cents each at an antique store.

Toured Moody Gardens/Aquarium/Rainforest Tues 11/6 which was Senior Discount Day so we got in for 1/2 price.

Toured The Bishop's Palace built in 1892 Tues 11/6.
