He bought the pattern online for $3.95 from the same guy at MasterpiecePumpkins.com that he bought the Captain Jack Sparrow Halloween 2011 Pumpkin pattern from that you can see in a scrapbook layout here. I'll be creating a scrapbook layout of this as well.
There are 3 pattern ratings: Easy, Moderate & Challenging and this pattern like last yr is rated Challenging which has to do with the shading carving that involves cutting partially thru, peeling away skin but leave pumpkin flesh.
A battery operated light is used to light up the styrofoam pumpkin.
Hubby realized he had forgot to cut the top line of hat so you can see he has made the cut now in the new photo added 10/27/12.
paper: printer paper - pattern printed on
pattern: MasterPiecePumpkins.com Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter
pumpkin: styrofoam - bought at Michael's
tools: Pumpkin Masters carving tools, push pins (to mark the pattern onto pumpkin) & dremel (electric tool)
and last but not least: time, patience & skill

ReplyDeleteI am very pleased with this pumpkin and glad also that I photographed hubby in the carving stages of it. Funny thing is that usually he is not critical of his work but he said he made 2 mistakes and learned a lot from this carving.

ReplyDeleteNo wonder you won, this is brilliant! Am making a card just now so won't chat long. Have raised my followers bar to the top right column on my blog - it was way down past the castle post so no wonder you never found it. The castle in question is in the north of Scotland, close to where Donald Trump just built his new golf course if that helps. I've also put in a Wikki link if you're interested. Chat more another day once said card is made! Lovely to have linked up with you, Jx
